The Canadian Forces Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART), conducting relief operations in the quake-hit areas, Monday distributed over one million litres of purified water.

"Purified water is in high demand in the earthquake devastated areas of Kashmir," said Lieutenant Colonel Mike Voith, Commander of Canada's DART. He further said that purified water was also required by medical centres and other relief organisations, said a press release issued here by DART.

The DART started producing water on October 23rd deploying with four Reverse Osmosis Water Purification Units located at Gahri Dopatta, Muzaffarabad and Hattian Bala. "This purification unit is capable of purifying any water sources up to 200,000 litres per day," he added.

The DART is contributing to the Canadian government's aid effort to bring relief to the people of Pakistan affected by the earthquake. The team is comprised of trained medical staff and engineers with a wide variety of skills and able to operate in challenging environments.
